Welcome to Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management, which is a prime Hotel Management institution in Kolkata under the JIS Group Educational Initiatives, with state-of-the-art infrastructure and practical labs. Starting its journey on the 1st of July in the year 2005, GNIHM is affiliated to National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) under Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, and designated as a Private IHM, offering Bachelor’s and Diploma courses in the institute.
The hospitality industry presents a number of unique challenges that require managers and executives to have specialized skill sets that are not taught and not emphasized sufficiently in typical business schools, but are incorporated in the hospitality curricula. A hospitality-specific focus in courses offered by GNIHM allows our students to more readily apply the knowledge and skills acquired during college to their jobs upon graduation. Our students can be more easily trained in company-specific skills with a foundation in the management of hospitality enterprises that a college education provides. We teach our students skills to succeed in small-business contexts, in addition to corporate environments, which is not only important for our students but also for the economy as a whole, as small businesses are increasingly seen as the engines of economic growth. The hospitality industry largely sells service experiences, rather than goods and products. Education in this area requires a specialized understanding of the unique challenges of marketing, managing, and evaluating services, which is a focus area of the GNIHM course curricula. Additionally, hospitality managers need to be well-versed in organizational behaviour, leadership, and human-resource management. GNIHM promotes Experiential Learning and Application in its curriculum by including case studies, lab work, research-based assignments, field trips, etc. Students are exposed to dynamic industrial environments through internships, practicum, short-term industry projects, seminars and webinars, food festivals, etc.
In the Hospitality Industry, students must have good communication skills, especially, good spoken English skills, a hospitable nature and ability to work in a team, and lead a team as and when required. He/She must be open-minded with a positive attitude to learn, and have patience, readiness for hard work and admirable listening skills also. GNIHM lays immense emphasis on soft skills development of the student, to develop professional etiquettes, networking abilities and interpersonal skills – attributes which are integral to a successful hospitality professional.
GNIHM has created a huge bank of hospitality education resource material in the form of video lectures, video practicals, power-point presentations on all topics of all subjects that are taught in the various courses at the institute, and have made these resources available 24x7 on the online portal of GNIHM, thus enabling all students to access these study material anytime as per their convenience.
Team GNIHM looks forward to working with all the young hospitality aspirants, to facilitate their journey to becoming renowned professionals in the field of hospitality and tourism.
With best wishes from
